Andrei's Restaurant

A somewhat unknown gem in Irvine. It's located upstairs between a high rise building and a Marriott hotel if you blink you will miss it on the corner of Jamboree and Main. The food is locally sourced and fresh, but more importantly consistently good. I ordered the burger and it was cooked perfectly and super juicy. The caramelized onions and fresh tomato created the perfect balance between the fresh brioche bun. The servers, especially Samantha, are very friendly, know the menu well and help create a wonderful atmosphere. The decor is lovely and open, and they have a nice patio area off the dining area with fire features in the evening. It's a great spot to have a business lunch or stop for happy hour. You should check it out if you are in the area.

Why only 3 stars? Read below. Excellent food and service. There were 5 of us ordering a mix of meat, fish and salads. Portions were huge. Everything was perfect. But the bill came with an added 20% gratuity. I would have left a 20% tip as the waitstaff were exceptional. However no mention of an added gratuity was made on the menu or their website. 20% is a lot and you do not blindside your customers with it at the end of the meal. It should be mentioned on the menu. So, I would not be returning.
